This picture was from the scapes assignment. I took this picture in Boston, and decided to take it looking upward at the building. The rectangle shapes and the leading lines create repetition in this picture. I had a large depth of field because everything was in focus. Also in the corner, the negative space forms a triangle shape. I put the picture in black and white because I felt it emphazied the shapes more, and the color was too distracting. The point of view is what is interesting about this picture because it shows how tall the building is, and how small we really are. The picture shows the building reaching up to the sky, but seeing as how tall the building was, I could only capture some of it.
This picture was from the assignment for reflection and shadow. I found this an interesting assignment because I've never paid attention to the things that could show reflection. When I was sitting in 5 guys, I looked out the window and noticed what was behind me was being reflected in the window. This picture consists of a lot of repition which is what unifies the picture. The red on the table, the red on the counter, the red light, the red stop sign, and the red on the signs, is the color repetion. Also there is a mix of cool colors and warm colors. Most of the objects are warm colors, and the outside is dark and cool colors. The other repetition in this picture is the various rectangles. The counter, the signs, the tables, the reflection of the door frames, and the white wall in the corner are all rectangles. The picture has a large depth of field because everything is in focus. The interesting thing about this picture is that the viewer has to try to distinguish what is being reflected and what is really there. Considering some of the picture is outside and some of the picture is inside. The multiple layers in this picture creates a confusing but interesting view of a simple resturaunte.
This picture was part of the depth assignment. Hailey and Alyssa set themselves apart in the picture. Hailey is in the foreground, Alyssa is in the middleground, and the doorway is in the background. We postitioned ourselves like this so we could capture the essence of foreground, middle ground, and background. Hailey's face in totally in focus, but as the picture moves from foreground to background it gets blurrier to the point where you almost can't tell wahts in the background. This would mean that the picture has a shallow depth of field because only Hailey is in focus. This only has leading lines in this picture. The way we set up Hailey and Alyssa, leads you from one girl to the next, and then the stairs take you to the background. This picture has a sort of mysterious feel to it, because Hailey and Alyssa are both looking into the distance but in different ways. It makes you think what the two girls relationship is, and how they are feeling.
This picture was taking for the motion assignment. I wanted to capture Hailey throwing the leaves up in the air in the leaves falling down. I used a fast shutter speed so that I could baiscally freeze the motion of the picture and nothing is in blur. The leaves and Hailey's arms were captured in motion. I liked the point of view of this picture because its Hailey's upper bosy and then the leaves falling above her head. I also liked the bacground because it wasn't too distracting, and it allows you to focus more on the subject matter which is Hailey and the leaves. There is a repition of color in this picture between, reds and oranges. The bricks, leaves and Hailey's shirt all help unify the picture with color. The fact that Hailey has a different color sweatshirt and pants on helps not blend everything together in the picture. The interesting thing about this picture is the fact that this is motion stopped, and you can't really tell if the leaves are falling from the sky or if Hailey threw them or if Hailey just posed like that.
This picture was taken for the rhythm, texure and repetion assignment. I took this on a dock in Berkeley. The close up view of the rope shows the texture of the rope. The close up view of the metal shows how it is rusting overtime, and getting old. The close up view of the wood in the background also shows how it is getting worn down overtime. In this picture the colors are very neutral and there is no pop of color in this. Also, leading lines is in this picture. The way the rope is tied leads your eyes throughout the picture and the metal peice leads your eyes straight through the picture. If the rope was not in this picture, it would be a very simple picture but the tied rope adds some complication to the picture. There is a large depth of field in this picture because everything is in focus. There is repeition of sort of circular shapes. The lines on the rope form circles, the nail is a circle, and the two bolts on the metal are circles too. What is interesting about this picture is that the colors are so plain and there is nothing that jumps out at you, but the way the rope is tied gives the picture a complicated more interesting view to a simple dock.
This picture was also taken for the rhythm, texture, and repition assignment. In this picture, I also focused on the texture of a different rope. The lines of the rope lead your eyes right through the picture. I also took into consideration the rule of thirds on this picture. The water would be on the left side, the rope is in the middle, and the dock is on the ride side. There is also a horizontal rule of thirds in play with just the dock, where the wood meets the space between them makes three rectangles. The nails from the wood also lead your eyes through the right side of the picture. It is interesting how the nails almost follow the shape of the rope. The water on the side also has a lot of texture to it. Also, I captured motion in this picture because the water is moving, and you can see the tiny waves it created which in turn creates sort of a texture. I found that this picture is interesting because the way it is brokenup into three sections, and there isn't much distractining in this picture. I also like that the rope and the dock would be the postive space, and the water would be the negative space. I like how they are two opposite colors, but unify eachother at the same time.
